Founder Story

A promise became the work.

Disability Resource Partners began with a promise I made to my son, and grew into a commitment to build better paths for every person and family forced to live in the gaps.

The Promise

Long before Disability Resource Partners had a name, it began with a promise.

When my son Dayton was fighting to be here, I promised him that if he kept fighting, I would spend my life fighting to make this world worthy of his presence.

I had no idea what that promise would ask of me.

What the Systems Taught Me

Dayton’s life has been extraordinary, complicated, beautiful and incredibly hard. Loving him has taken me into hospital rooms, classrooms, government systems, service systems and countless spaces where I had to learn things I never expected to know and find strength I didn’t know I had.

For a long time, I thought the purpose of everything I was learning was simply to get him what he needed.

Then I began to understand something bigger.

The years I spent fighting for Dayton had taught me how to see what others often couldn’t. I could see where systems disconnected, where information became lost, where policy and reality stopped matching, and where families were being asked to carry burdens that should never have belonged to them.

More importantly, I could see ways to make it better.

That changed the direction of my life.

What I Could Build

I stopped seeing our experiences only as things we had survived and started asking what I could build because we had survived them.

That question became Disability Resource Partners.

DRP is where everything Dayton has taught me meets everything I believe is possible. It is built on the belief that lived experience has value, families deserve more than survival, and the people who understand these systems from the inside should have a meaningful role in building what comes next.

Because somewhere along the way, the promise I made to Dayton became bigger than the two of us.

A Promise Bigger Than Us

I began to see our family in every parent desperately trying to make someone understand. In every person whose needs were divided between systems that never saw the whole of them. In every family carrying years of records, decisions, denials and unanswered questions while still getting up the next morning and doing whatever came next.

And I realized that making the world worthy of Dayton’s presence could never stop with Dayton.

It meant using everything our journey taught me to make the path better for the people coming behind us.

It meant turning lived experience into solutions. Making invisible gaps visible. Building tools that give families back some of the power they were forced to surrender just to receive support. And creating something that doesn’t simply help people navigate systems as they exist, but helps us imagine and build what those systems could become.

That is the heart of Disability Resource Partners.

It began with one mother, one little boy and one very big promise.

But it belongs to something much bigger now.

To every family who has ever wondered why getting help had to be this hard.To every person whose full humanity has been reduced to paperwork, eligibility or a diagnosis. To every voice that knew something was wrong long before a system was willing to listen. And to every person who deserves the opportunity not merely to be supported, but to belong, contribute and thrive.

I made that promise to Dayton.

DRP is how I carry it forward for all of us.
